THE EXPERIENCE

The Mining and Railway Theme Park in Utrillas offers a fascinating journey into the region’s mining heritage, featuring two museums and an historic mining train.

The Santa Bárbara Shaft complex houses the Lamp Museum, showcasing one of Europe’s most important collections of miners’ lamps, and a palaeontology display featuring fossils, including remains of Spain’s first known dinosaur and unique amber pieces from the Sierra de Sant Just.
Visitors can also explore the miners’ showers, steam boilers and the original extraction tower, which operated from 1920 until 1981. The second museum, located in a former mining hospital, is the Museum of Mining Science and Archaeology, with exhibitions on mining history, tools, models and fossils.
A restored mining train links the two museums along 2,600 metres of original track, pulled by historic steam and diesel locomotives. The park is open from February to December, offering guided tours led by former miners, making it an educational experience for all ages.
