ASTROTOURISM

LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AT NIGHT, CAN YOU SEE SOME STARS? IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THE SKY INSTEAD OF THE REFLECTION OF THE CITY LIGHTS, YOU ARE VERY FORTUNATE AND IT IS ALSO LIKELY THAT YOU ARE IN ONE OF THOSE FEW PRIVILEGED PLACES FOR ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATION. ARAGON HAS PERFECT PLACES TO ENJOY THE DARK SKY AND PRACTICE ASTROTOURISM.

STARLIGHT TERRITORIES

The region of the Sierra de Albarracín is a ” Starlight Territory” since 2020 by achieving the double certificate of Starlight Tourist Destination and Starlight Reserve, which forms a network throughout the world and guarantees to be an ideal place for the contemplation of a starry sky. With the approval of the double certification, the Sierra de Albarracín Region joined those obtained in 2016 by Gúdar-Javalambre and in 2018 by Cuencas Mineras.

GALACTICA

The scientific work of the Center of Physics Studies of the Cosmos of Aragon testifies the exceptional sky quality, considered as one of the best in the northern hemisphere. This is why from the Pico del Buitre, the telescopes of the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory travel back in time to show us the wonders of the Universe and help us to decipher such exciting questions such as what is dark energy?

What activities can you do there?

PERSEIDS WITH FAMILY

From August 9th to 14th

Each evening, you can tour the facilities and enjoy the temporary exhibitions, such as “Open your eyes”, which shows large-format images taken at the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory. Visitors will also be able to learn about the musealization project that CEFCA is working on.

ESPACIO 042

The Aragonese Astronomical Center “Espacio 042” is an ideal place to learn how and why the sky changes and what we can see in it at each moment. Located in the city of Huesca, it has a complete entertaining and educational program.

It also has one of the most modern planetariums in Spain equipped with telescopes from which you can make observations.
Do you want to experience a magical night? The Perseids star shower, also known as the “Tears of St. Lawrence”, in August, will make your wishes come true. Throughout the year, the Astronomical Association of Huesca offers a wide range of interesting activities.

What activities can I do?

SAN LORENZO’S PERSEIDS 2021

Enjoy the night observations dedicated to the Perseids. You will learn about the history of these meteors and you will enter the dome of the Planetarium with a new projection on the billboard, ‘Europe to the Stars’ and a special content produced in the Planetarium dedicated to the star shower.

AN UNFORGETTABLE SKY

Here you will enjoy the sky with your five senses. In Huesca, Zaragoza and Teruel there are very active astronomical groups and activity companies with proposals such as a dinner under the stars, observations in the middle of the vineyard, night photography courses, telescope making, horseback riding under the full moon… You will also find establishments free of light pollution, with specialized astronomical materials and some even with an observatory. An offer that grows to put the Universe at your fingertips.
