LA EXPERIENCIA

The Miguel Carreras Foundation’s Casa Miguelé project aims to celebrate the lives of past generations, especially in rural communities, and to showcase 20th-century traditions.

The elderly remember; the young learn. This experience goes far beyond a simple visit — it includes tours of a living house. There are exhibitions, workshops, and guided walks around the village. Visitors will discover daily tasks, rural life, the importance of nature, and the pivotal role women played in these communities.

A highlight every November is the guided theatrical tour performed by local volunteers. Local cuisine is brought to life through the recipe book “La mesa de antaño y de siempre” (“The Table of Yesteryear and Today”). The project also features documentary screenings and video projections, offering a rich, immersive journey into the region’s heritage.

Visitors begin on the first floor, which recreates daily life inside Casa Miguelé: the kitchen, living room, pantry, and bathroom.

Descending to the ground floor, you’ll encounter the animals and agricultural spaces: the barn, cellar, stables, slaughterhouse, and pens for cows and pigs — all evoking a way of life that thrived thanks to a deep respect for nature.

The visit concludes upstairs, where you’ll discover the bedrooms, sewing and handicrafts, childhood memories, the vital contribution of women in the rural world, and spaces dedicated to mourning customs and a historical timeline.
